Resin Gap Filling

Resin gap filling is commonly requested for parquet and some original floorboards because it creates a fine, smooth and neat finish. We mix a professional resin with fine dust taken from your floor to create a close colour match and a natural-looking result.

It’s important to understand that resin is not a structural product. All wooden floors move naturally through the seasons, and because of this, resin can develop small cracks over time. This is completely normal and expected with any resin-based filler on a moving timber floor.

There is no alternative product that performs the same way visually, so resin remains the preferred solution when clients want the cleanest possible appearance — as long as its natural limitations are understood.

Why We No Longer Use Pine Slivers

Slivers are pre-cut timber wedges that were traditionally used to fill larger gaps between floorboards. Although they can look neat when first installed, we’ve found that they rarely perform well long-term.

Original pine boards expand and contract with changes in temperature and humidity. Slivers do not always move at the same rate, which can cause them to lift, sit proud or become visible again over time. This makes them unreliable as a permanent solution.

In addition, the reclaimed slivers available on the market today are often inconsistent in colour, quality and density — and no longer match genuine antique pine as closely as they used to.

For these reasons, we no longer offer slivers as a service. We find that modern acrylic fillers provide a cleaner, more flexible and longer-lasting result for the majority of original pine floors.

Acrylic Mastic Filler

Acrylic filler is our preferred method for original pine floorboards. Once cured, it remains flexible, allowing for natural seasonal movement without breaking away or looking untidy.

It creates a subtle shadow line, helps reduce draughts and enhances overall energy efficiency. Acrylic filler offers an excellent balance of appearance, reliability and long-term performance — making it our first choice for most traditional floorboards.
